ON THE ROAD TO REDUCING AUTO THEFT: Covenant Village Raises Funds for Golden Valley Police Bait Car

Golden Valley Chief of Police Stacey Carlson (left) and Nancy Azzam (center), board chair of the city’s Crime Prevention Fund, accepted a $1,017.63 check from Covenant Village of Golden Valley Sales Director Craig McDaniels (right). The money will be enough to cover 20 percent of the cost of the software needed for a bait car — a vehicle modified with features like GPS tracking that allows police to capture car thieves. Covenant Village donated 100 percent of the proceeds from a recent pancake breakfast. More than 200 people attended; many donated more that the $3 minimum donation requested. According to Carlson, the bait car will help reduce the trend in Golden Valley auto thefts, which was up 21 percent in 2012 compared to 2011
