Calvary celebrates one-year anniversary of Community Meal

In this age of fast food and busy schedules, the frequency of sit-down, home-cooked meals with family and friends has dwindled. But, over the past year, the Community Meal at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minn., has brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy good food and conversation across the dinner table. This month marks the first anniversary of the Community Meal, which is free and open to the public each week.

The Community Meal takes place every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Calvary. The church is located at 7520 Golden Valley Road in Golden Valley. Learn more at calvary.org/meal.

“A free meal is one thing, but the new friendships that have been formed since last summer are probably the most treasured takeaway of our time together each week,” said the Rev. T.J. Anderson, Calvary’s interim senior pastor.

Calvary’s Community Meal was born out of the church’s desire to reach out into the community and to provide not only some good food, but also a place where people from all walks of life can enjoy each other’s company. About 200 people currently attend each week and, since its beginning, the Community Meal has served more than 8,500 free dinners.

“We look forward to welcoming even more people to the Community Meal as it enters its second year,” added Anderson. “Perhaps you’re looking for a way to connect with others in our local community. Perhaps you’re simply in need of a good meal. Whatever your reason for joining us, we look forward to meeting and eating with you!”
