Taxes: No one likes to pay them, everyone benefits from the services they provide. A recent city wide residential survey shows that Golden Valley residents are very satisfied with the services delivered. I am also hearing at the doors that some residents feel that property taxes in our city are high. I will support a balanced approach to continuing to provide quality service delivery and maintaining a reasonable tax based revenue source. Delivering quality services can be a challenge with tightening budgets. I will continually examine the budget and look for ways to help our city operate more efficiently. In Golden Valley we have a very high quality of life which attracts people and business to our city and encourages residents to want to stay here throughout their lifetime. Cutting services and programs which impact that quality life should be avoided. Our tax base, or tax share, can be broadened with increased business development and high density housing; I’ll talk more about development tomorrow. Attracting more business and encouraging their success will help to spread that tax burden over more sources.
