7 Days until Election Day, issue of the day: Utility Infrastructure.

7 Days until Election Day, issue of the day; Utility Infrastructure. You can find out more about my ideas on the issues of interest to Golden Valley Residents on my website: https://andysnope.com/issues/

I will examine our utility infrastructure and ensure that we are working with other entities to provide an assured delivery of services of water, gas and electricity especially during emergency situations.

After the recent severe weather this past spring, Golden Valley experienced a very close call with our water delivery system. A water main collapsed in Robbinsdale, and the backup power source failed at one of the pump houses that provide water service.  Crews worked feverishly to restore power and put the pump house back online. I think it is important that we analyze this situation, learn from it and take the proper steps to make sure we have built in the proper redundant safeguards to protect our water supply.

Also after the same spring storms, many Golden Valley residents lost power for several days. Most of the electricity supplied to the residents of Golden Valley is delivered by above-ground pole- mounted electrical equipment and wiring.  This system is quite old; most of the infrastructure was installed when Golden Valley was developed in the 1950’s. I would like to see Golden Valley engage in conversation with Xcel Energy to ascertain its plans for ongoing maintenance, replacement and other infrastructure issues.   Is it adequate?  Should we be looking at converting our overhead delivery system to more underground delivery systems?
