Human Rights and Respect: I will support programs and activities that promote our diversity and bring the community together and create respect toward one another.

Everyone has basic human rights including feeling safe in their community and expecting that city services are provided equally to all. Golden Valley is a great place to live and work.  We need to assure that our city is a welcoming city to all. We are a very diverse city, and that is something we should be proud of.  I would like to see Golden Valley continue to provide programs and activities that celebrate the different cultures and lifestyles we share. Opening communications and breaking down misconceptions are the keys to a successful community, and we should continue along that path.

Currently I am serving on the newly formed Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (HRC). I fully support the commission’s mission to help promote and nourish a safe, respectful, and welcoming community.

On Thursday November 21 the HRC will be holding a community event focused on bullying. We will be showing the movie “MN Nice?” it is a documentary featuring interviews with students across Minnesota, most of whom have been victims of bullying. Directed by Edina native Alec Fischer. After the movie we will be having a community discussion about the movie. You can find more about the event here: HRC movie night
