Healthy Skin is a Beautiful Thing!

Hello, I’m Alicia, the resident skin therapist here at The Beauty Lab located in Golden Valley.  I have been in this industry a little over two years and have been with The Beauty Lab since June.  Many people ask me why are facials beneficial and what exactly does it include? So I am here to break it all down for you and to tell you why it’s important for both men and women alike to care for their skin. Our skin is the largest organ of our body so why are people not taking better care of it? This is a question I ask people on a daily basis because I love to educate them about their skin.

There are many types of facials out there; basically a facial includes: cleanse, skin analysis, exfoliation, extractions (getting rid of the blackheads), massage, masque, tone, & moisturize. A facial normally lasts about an hour, but you will see anything from twenty minute skin treatments to ninety minute treatments.  Any of these can be beneficial depending on the product that is being used.  A facial is a professional skin treatment that helps to fix certain concerns or issues a person may have on the skin. This can range anywhere from aging to pigmentation (dark spots) and acne.

Many people get facials to relax, which is good, but these days facials are also about results and fixing the clients concerns.  Stress does a lot of damage to the skin, so being able to relax during a facial is key, which is why most skin therapists provide some kind of massage during facials.  Another important factor of a facial is exfoliation. You need a good deep exfoliation every so often to get rid of the dead skin cells on the skin and to increase cell turnover and renewal. This helps your skin to be smooth and glowing. Also, depending on the product line that a salon or spa is using, many have professional only products that can only be used during treatments. These products are more active and aggressive to get the job done faster, but can only be used under a skin therapists care so clients don’t harm their skin.  That’s why depending what your concern is I would recommend checking out the salon or spa ahead of time to see what product line they use. Also, just the education alone you get from a facial is very beneficial. Many people are using the wrong products on their skin whether it be professional or over the counter, getting a professionals opinion and a thorough skin analysis will help you get on the right path for better caring for your skin.

Here at The Beauty Lab we do free skin analysis’ (face mapping) to find out what your skin concerns are.  From there we can suggest treatments for you or products!

As always, we wish you Happiness, Love and Joy!

-Alicia
