Hopkins Students Release Music Sampler

The two-volume, 35-song Hopkins Royals Sampler showcases the talents of high school musicians.

Hopkins High School students are talented musicians—and now you can continue enjoying their performances long after the performances have ended and they’ve graduated. Fans can now buy a two-volume, 35-song Hopkins Royals Sampler that showcases the talents of local musicians. Money from the choir and orchestra helped fund the project, according to a video produced by the Royal Page. “It shows that there’s this incredible diversity at the high school,” a student in the video said. “Even just among the small group of 40 or 50 kids there’s just a huge diversity of what type of music and what instruments and who’s playing it and which friend groups.” Watch the Royal Page’s video in the player above. Video: Perpich Art Student's Film Debuts at Mall of America

A feature film by Perpich art students will premier Wednesday, May 29, at the theaters of the Mall of America.

Please don’t condescend to the writer/director, actors, dancers or musicians involved in the feature film “Weekend Hat.” They may be teenagers but the production of this 90-minute coming-of-age movie has been a professional project from front to back. Led by its award-winning writer-director, Adam Jacobs of Brooklyn Park, this project came to fruition and completion in the halls of the Perpich Arts High School in Golden Valley. It is a personal project, not a class assignment. Jacobs is a senior about to graduate in media arts. His actors are mostly from the arts high school’s theater program, but also drawn from Champlin-Park and Park Center high schools. The soundtrack is provided by bands whose primary members are students in the school…

2013 Golden Valley Days Will Resume As Scheduled

Despite the rainy weather, Golden Valley Days' schedule remains 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Brookview Park in Golden Valley.

The 2013 Golden Valley Days Music and Art Festival is still going despite the rainy weather and there's of plenty of activities and events to choose from at the annual event. New this year is a bus shuttle running from the Calvary Lutheran Church south parking lot to Brookview Park and the different plant sales going on during the day. The inclement weather may let up this afternoon, but morning activities including the parade went on as expected. Here is the festival schedule, according to the Golden Valley Community Foundation website: • Pancake breakfast, 8 to 11 a.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church • Community parade, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., route begins at Ridgeway and Western streets, travels along Western to end at Brookview Park. Hopkins students wowed music lovers at the annual spring concert Thursday. Those who attended got to hear pieces performed by the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony.
