It's Spring and It's 5 Degrees above Zero: Why Do You Live in MN Again?

A windchill of minus 10 on the first day of spring. Have you considered moving out of state to get away from this climate?

It's 5 degrees above zero on the first day of spring—10 degrees below zero if you count wind chill. Why do you live in Minnesota again?

Today is the vernal equinox, when the Earth decides which end it wants to tip toward the sun. Why do our chances of being warm again seem less than 50-50?

Spring has sprung, but the climate seems to have sprung a gasket. It's the coldest it's been this late in the season since 1996. Why haven't you moved someplace warm yet?

Watch the video above, titled Why We're Here: Twin Cities. It was shot two years ago—entirely in the summer. Coincidence?

Leave a comment below and share five good reasons you still live in Minnesota—one reason for each degree above zero this morning.

Four very distinct seasons
The number of lakes
The number of national, regional and local parks for camping, hiking and general nature activities
Career opportunities are diverse and plentiful
You can't ice fish and snowmobile in a lot of other states!

The dandelions are more manageable. Long mowing accidents are at a minimum. Air-conditioning bills are on heard of. The neighborhood competition for the greenest yard is suspended. And lastly, the warmth versus fashion Wardrobe at the busstops is always entertaining.

#1 - I was born and raised here!
#2 - My friends live here. I met my husband here and we bought a house together here!
#3 - The cold weather kills off a lot of nasty things like cockroaches, scorpions, rats, brown recluse spiders, termites, water mocasins, etc...
#4 - I love playing in the snow: snowshoeing, skiing, etc! I also love swimming and canoeing in our beautiful lakes:-)
#5 - Technology for keeping us warm exists: like indoor central heating, warm insulative clothing, heated cars, etc...

1) The tourist season is short and they seem to be happy to leave.
2) Not a lot of people want to move to Minnesota except people that get dumped here.
3) Doing time here in Minnesota beats doing time in Rayway NJDOC
4) It is easier to shop for groceries once a Vikings game starts
5) The native Minnesotan are general easy going so I hope this secret never gets out..We have enough people here in the state now...it is a good balance... That's why most people live here in Minnesota...
