Golden Valley Man Charged with Robbing Strip Club Patron

A Golden Valley man has been charged with robbing a man who had just left a downtown Minneapolis strip club.

Antonio James Jackson, 22, is charged with simple robbery, a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Sgt. Walter Carlson, the victim had just left Dreamgirls in downtown Minneapolis at about 4 a.m. July 19 and started walking toward the Chambers Hotel.

Two men approached him and offered to sell him cocaine, but the man told them he wasn’t interested, according to the complaint.

The victim continued walking through a parking lot behind the First Avenue club, and the two men continued following him, “insisting” that he buy drugs from them, the complaint says.

When the victim again declined to make a purchase, one of the men pushed him up against a fence and held something that he thought was a small firearm against his ribs, the man told police. The two made off with the victim’s wallet, $1,000 in cash, a diamond earring and a Bulova watch, the complaint says.

The victim ran onto Hennepin Avenue into the path of a passing taxi, yelling that he had been robbed. The cab driver called police, and the victim described the primary assailant.

Shortly afterward, police spotted Jackson—who matched the description given by the victim—standing on the light-rail platform on 5th Street. He was arrested, and during a search, police found two credit cards and an identification card in the victim’s name.

Jackson initially told police that he had found the items on the light-rail platform, according to the complaint. However, in a subsequent interview, he told officers that he had picked up items belonging to the victim after he saw someone drop them on the floor at Sex World.

Jackson remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $50,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Aug. 29 in Hennepin County District Court.
