Get Out: Celebration of Courage and Market in the Valley

Every week, Golden Valley Patch gives you some idea for where to spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

It's time to plan another weekend, Golden Valley residents. This week you can support the Courage Center in 1930s New Orleans and pick up some fresh produce.


Golden Valley

  • Celebration of Courage
  • When: From 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Earle Brown Heritage Center (6155 Earle Brown Dr, Brooklyn Center)
  • Why Go: In support of the programs and services provided by the Courage Center, enjoy an evening that will take you back to 1930s New Orleans, featuring boogie woogie music and dinner with jumbo prawns.
  • Price: Individual tickets $150

 

  • Market in the Valley
  • When: From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Golden Valley City Hall
  • Why Go: The farmers’ market is still going strong every Sunday with fresh local produce, music, art and fun for everyone.
  • Price: Free General Admission

 

Southwest Minneapolis

  • Celebrate 38
  • When: From 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: E 38th Street & Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis
  • Why Go: Celebrate the community on 38th Street with music, dance, food, fun and more neighborly fun.
  • Price: Free General Admission
  • Note: Local Editor James Sanna of Southwest Minneapolis Patch will be at the event with some giveaway items and to take some pictures. So stop by and say hi.

 

 

St. Louis Park

 

  • Waffle Dinner, Craft & Bake Sale
  • When: From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Lenox Community Center
  • Why Go: The St. Louis Park Senior Program invites you to eat all the hot-off-the-iron 9” waffles that you can.
  • Price: $7 per person at the door, Ages 5 and under are free

 

  • Twin Cities Film Festival
  • When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Where: ShowPlace Icon
  • Why Go: The festival will feature 31 films throughout the weekend. For the complete schedule, film details, prices and more, visit the Twin Cities Film Fest website.
  • Price:  Varies, multi-film passes available

 

Hopkins

  • Miss Nelson is Missing
  • When: At 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday
  • Where: Stages Theatre Company
  • Why Go: The musical adaptation of the back-to-school classic will have kids on their best behavior.
  • Price: Adults $15, Seniors (60+)/Youth (4-17) $12, Youth (3-4) lap pass $5, Free lap pass for youth 2 and under

 

  • Sunday Blues Jam
  • When: From 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Mainstreet Bar & Grill
  • Why Go: Spend the rest of your weekend with some of the area's greatest Blues musicians, including L Train.
  • Price: No cover

 


Minnetonka

  • Minnetonka Homecoming Parade
  • When: At 4 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Water Street & Lake Street, Excelsior
  • Why Go: The Minnetonka High School Homecoming Parade will travel down Water Street in Excelsior, starting near Excelsior Commons and ending by the car dealership.
  • Price: Free

 

  • Minnetonka Concert Band Performance
  • When: At 3 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: The Arts Center on 7
  • Why Go: The Minnetonka Concert Band of the MAM will present its Let's Dance concert featuring Gliere’s Russian Sailor’s Dance, Faure’s Pavanne, Arnold’s Four Scottish Dances and more.
  • Price: Free-will donations accepted at the door.

 

Lake Minnetonka

  • Live Music
  • When: At 8:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: The Narrows Saloon
  • Why Go: Enjoy an evening back in time with the Beatles tribute band, Hard Days Night.

 

  • Children's Book Event
  • When: At 2 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: The Bookcase
  • Why Go: The authors of Rags to Riches will be present to share the tales of the spunky little dog, Rags.
  • Price: Free

 

Edina

 

 

Richfield

 

  • 4th Annual Kickball Tournament & Bone Marrow Drive
  • When: From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: 9000 Portland Avenue S, Bloomington
  • Why Go: Blair’s Tree of Hope, a Hopkins based non-profit, is hosting an event to honor those who are fighting or have already lost the fight with cancer. Throughout the day there will be kickball, family friendly lawn games and the opportunity to see if you’d be a match to donate bone marrow.
  • Price: Free General Admission

 

Plymouth

  • Fire Department 5k & Kids' Fun Run
  • When: At 9 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: Plymouth Fire Station II (12000 Old Rockford Road, Plymouth)
  • Why Go: Heat up your Saturday morning with an invigorating 5K run/walk or short jaunt for the kids through the Fire Station II neighborhood.
  • Price: Race day registration and check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and costs $25. The Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m. is free.

 

  • Plymouth on Parade
  • When: From 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Life Time Fitness
  • Why Go: Celebrate the Plymouth community as the parade marches down Plymouth Boulevard, followed by family entertainment, food and more.
  • Price: Free General Admission
