10 Golden Valley Residents Compete in Maple Grove Triathlon

More than 1,200 athletes participated in the annual Maple Grove Triathlon on Saturday.

 

In its third year, the Maple Grove Triathlon brought out more than a 1,000 athletes to Weaver Lake Park in Maple Grove, Minn. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.

Among the competition options, triathletes could choose to either run in the Dare to Sprint which included a .3 mile swim, 14 mile bike ride and three mile run or the longer The Olympic Dare course of .9 miles, 26 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run.

The top finisher in The Olympic Dare was Kris Spoth (2:03:07) of Ames, IA followed by Patrick Parish of Bloomington and Andrew Turner of Sioux Falls, SD.

From Golden Valley, three triathletes participated in The Olympic Dare. Michael Iwan placed 146th, Shannon Worum placed 142nd and Danielle Lussier placed 360th.

The top finisher in the Dare to Sprint was Trevor Bunkers (1:01:43) of Sioux Falls, SD followed by David Phillips of Maple Grove and Robert Brown of Hopkins.

Seven Golden Valley residents finished the Dare to Sprint. The top finisher from Golden Valley was Andrew Thuleen, who finished with a time of one hour and 21 minutes.
